Computational electrochemistry: prediction of liquid-phase reduction potentials.

چکیده
This article reviews recent developments and applications in the area of computational electrochemistry. Our focus is on predicting the reduction potentials of electron transfer and other electrochemical reactions and half-reactions in both aqueous and nonaqueous solutions. Topics covered include various computational protocols that combine quantum mechanical electronic structure methods (such as density functional theory) with implicit-solvent models, explicit-solvent protocols that employ Monte Carlo or molecular dynamics simulations (for example, Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics using the grand canonical ensemble formalism), and the Marcus theory of electronic charge transfer. We also review computational approaches based on empirical relationships between molecular and electronic structure and electron transfer reactivity. The scope of the implicit-solvent protocols is emphasized, and the present status of the theory and future directions are outlined.

متن کاملThermodynamic Properties and Phase Equilibria for Liquid Fluorine Using GMA Equation of State
Thermophysical properties of fluorine are interesting because of its applications in different areas of technologyand industry. The computations of thermodynamic properties were performed with the GMA equation of stateunder critical conditions. The present work reports calculations of density, volumetric, and thermodynamicproperties of liquid fluorine on extended ranges of pressure and temperat...
متن کاملElectrochemistry of a single attoliter emulsion droplet in collisions.
We report here the electrochemistry of emulsion droplets by observing single emulsion droplet collisions with selective electrochemical reduction on an ultramicroelectrode (UME). With appropriately applied potentials at an UME, we can observe the electrochemical effects of single collision signals from the complete electrolysis of single emulsion droplets, or selective electrolysis of redox spe...
متن کاملPrediction of reduction potentials from calculated electron affinities for metal-salen compounds
The electron affinities (EAs) of a training set of 19 metal-salen compounds were calculated using density functional theory. Concurrently, the experimental reduction potentials for the training set were measured using cyclic voltammetry. The EAs and reduction potentials were found to be linearly correlated by metal. The reduction potentials of a test set of 14 different metal-salens were then m...
متن کاملElectrochemistry-mass spectrometry for mechanism study of oxygen reduction at water/oil interface
Electrochemistry methods have been widely employed in the development of renewable energy, and involved in various processes, e.g. water splitting and oxygen reduction. Remarkable progress notwithstanding, there are still many challenges in further optimization of catalysts to achieve high performance. For this purpose, an in-depth understanding of reaction mechanism is needed. In this study, a...
